Kaplan College, Phoenix campus, has a rich history that spans over three decades. Previously known as Long Technical College, each campus was founded separately and now operates under Kaplan Higher Education Corporation. The school changed its name to Kaplan College in August of 2007.
Long Technical College originated as a result of merging two separate schools, Scottsdale Educational Center and the Institute of Medical and Dental Technology, and became known as Scottsdale Educational Center. The first students were enrolled at Scottsdale Educational Center in March of 1972.
In 1980, the College was purchased by Mr. Ed Long and, in 1983, the name changed to Long Medical Institute.
In April 1988, the College was acquired by Educational Medical, Inc., (EMI), an educational company with headquarters in Roswell, Georgia.
The College became eligible to grant associate's degrees in 1996, and in 1999 the name was changed to Long Technical College to better portray the diverse programs offered.
In September 1998, EMI (the parent company) changed its name to Quest Education Corporation. Quest was purchased in July 2000 by Kaplan, Inc. In December 2002, Quest changed its name to Kaplan Higher Education Corporation. Today, Kaplan is dedicated to continuing the same excellent education for which Long Technical College is known.
